Provides offshore logistical support of the Aquarius Habitat, as well as maintains and operates all underwater laboratory equipment, small boats, and support systems. Monitors and maintains on board systems, coordinates diving activities and assists scientists with underwater tasks

• Provides diving and offshore logistical support of Aquarius Underwater Habitat.
• Monitors critical safety information, ensures diving and support equipment is functional, operates small boats in support of operations and performs emergency maintenance.
• Serves as Habitat Technician inside the Aquarius Habitat during saturation missions, this position monitors and maintains on board systems, coordinates diving activities and assists scientists.
• Assists scientists/aquanauts in the accomplishment of underwater tasks including placement and retrieval of experiments, measuring and documenting, video and still photography, sampling and collecting, monitoring and observing.
• Provides shore based logistical support of Aquarius operations.
• Services and maintains diving equipment, small boats, diesel and outboard engines. Monitors inventory and ensures all equipment is ready to support missions.
• Serves as the Qualified Diving Supervisor and Re-Compression Chamber Operator and Supervisor.
• Serves as Captain aboard Aquarius Reef Base (ARB) vessel.
• Performs essential duties in emergencies such as hurricanes, storms, and/or any other university emergency closing. Is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification from a department administrator

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma and 3 years of experience. SCUBA diving certification.

Departmental Requirements

Pre-Employment Requirement:

• Pass a Diving Physical Exam and swim test in accordance with FUI Diving Operations Manual
• Open Water Diver
• Ability to obtain a USCG License within 6 months of employment.

Desired Qualifications

• United States Coastal Guard Captain License.
• Military or commercial diver certification.
• 4 years of experience in the professional diving field (Scientific, military or commercial)
• Experience with diesel engines
• Military or commercial diver certification.
